History of Oberlin Village

4016 Carya Drive
Raleigh, NC 27610

Speaker: Cheryl Williams

Freed slaves founded Oberlin in the late 1860s, which became the largest Reconstruction-era black settlement in Wake County.  By 1880, some 160 families lived in Oberlin Village.  They established churches, schools and businesses. They buried their loved ones at the Historic Oberlin Cemetery.  Today, the area is designated a History Overlay District. Come learn about the contributions the people of Oberlin and their descendants have made to Raleigh history.

All WCGS meetings are free and open to the public.  Bring a friend!  Refreshments will be served during social time before the presentation. Presentation will start at 7:00.
